Gel nail extensions are a type of artificial nails that involve extending the length of the natural nails using gel products. Unlike traditional acrylic nails, gel extensions offer a more flexible and lightweight finish. They are created by applying a special gel formula onto the natural nail and then curing it under a UV or LED lamp to harden the material. Gel extensions are known for their natural appearance and durability.

The process of creating gel nail extensions typically involves these steps:

1. Nail preparation: The natural nails are cleaned, shaped, and sometimes lightly buffed to ensure proper adhesion of the gel.

2. Form or tip application:

   • Forms: Some technicians use flexible forms that are placed under the natural nail to create the extension. The gel is applied directly over the form, shaping the nail to the desired length.
   • Tips: Alternatively, pre-shaped plastic tips can be glued to the natural nail to add length. The gel is then applied over the tip to create a seamless finish.

3. Gel application: A base coat of gel is applied, followed by one or more layers of building gel, which is shaped and molded to the desired length and thickness. Each layer is cured under a UV or LED lamp to ensure it hardens correctly.

4. Shaping: After curing, the extension is filed and shaped to perfection, ensuring the gel looks smooth and even.

5. Top coat and finish: A final layer of gel top coat is applied to seal the extension and provide a glossy, durable finish. It’s then cured again under the lamp, and any sticky residue is wiped off.

6. Nail art and design (optional): At this point, you can also have various designs, colors, or embellishments added to the extensions for a personalized touch.
